every sth./sb. under the sun

一种夸张的表达法，直译是“太阳底下的一切”，换句话就是“地球上的一切”，多用于强调数目众多。如果不加every而单独使用under the sun，则解释为“全世界的；普天下的”。

The Chinese are often said to be the most hard-working people under the sun.(人们常称道中国人是世界上最勤劳的民族。)

I tried every way under the sun but I just couldn’t persuade him to come.（我用尽千方百计，就是说服不了他来。）

hitch one’s wagon to a star/t1he stars

字面意思“把自己的马车栓到一颗星星上”，表示“怀有大志”，用于形容以拼搏精神向伟大目标迈进。

The man who is daring to hitch his wagon to the stars finds the sky is so limit.（敢于胸怀大志的人会发现前途是无可限量的。）

ask for the moon

字面意“要月亮”，比喻“要求太多；要求一些难以得到或不可能得到的东西。”When you are trying to get a job, remember not to ask for the moon.（求职时记得切勿要求过高。）

I am not asking for the moon I just want a little of your time.（我的要求不算过分吧！我只不过想你给我一点点时间。）
